Questions
-
Are all of your products vegan and cruelty free? Our wax melts, candles, diffusers, soaps and lotions are all made from vegan-friendly and cruelty-free ingredients. None of our products are ever tested on animals.
-
Are candles as strong as wax melts?Due to the nature of how wax melts emit fragrance, a wax melt will always provide a stronger scent throw. This is because the wax acts a carrier to the fragrance, allowing the fragrance to be heated and 'throw' the scent. In contrast, a candle is fuelled via the wick, using a combination of the wax and fragrance oil to produce the scent throw. We recommend using scented candles to add ambience and a gentle aroma throughout a small-medium sized room; ideal for intimate dinner parties, sitting rooms, bathrooms and bedrooms. If you're looking for a strong scent throw to fill an entire space, we would recommend a wax melt.

Why is my candle not burning evenly? To ensure your candle burns evenly, burn it for 2-4 hours each time, especially on the first burn. Make sure the wax pool reaches the edge of the container. Trim the wick before each burn to prevent uneven burning and mushrooming.
-
My wick keeps mushrooming, what could be causing this? There are a few things that can cause a wick to mushroom - it is important to follow your candle care instructions to get the best out of your candle. Ensure you trim your wick to around 1/4 of an inch before each subsequent burn Candles should be burned for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 - burning your candle for too long will cause carbon buildup (this is the reason for mushrooming) and can cause the candle to overheat (overheatting will cause uneven burning, reduce your candles overall burn time and damage the wax resulting in your scent throw being affected)
-
How long should I burn my candle for?Candles should be burned for a minimum of 2 hours (or the amount of time it takes for the wax pool to reach the edge of the container) and a maximum of 4 hours. Burning your candle for longer than 4 hours can have the following impacts: The excessive heat could burn and damage the wax (due to it's very delicate and natural properties) - this will siginficantly impact the quality of your scent throw and the quality of the oil used to scent the candle The container could overheat which could cause the glass to potentially crack/break/shatter The wick could mushroom causing it to emit soot into the air

My candle is tunneling, what can I do to fix it?Candles have memory which is why the first burn is the most important. On the first burn, you need to wait for the wax pool to meet the edge of the container before extinguishing the flame - this will typically take at least 2 hours from when the candle is first lit. As a candle should never be left unattended, sometimes there will be circumstances where you need to extinguish the flame before the wax pool has reached the edge. If this happens, you can fix tunneling by doing the following: Light the wick Carefully place some tin foil over the candle leaving a smaller hole for the flame The foil will hold the heat and melt the wax from the sides of the container Remove foil as soon as this has happened IMPORTANT NOTE: Never leave your candle unattended. It is important to fix tunneling on the next burn - if there is alot of wax residue and it is not fixed as soon as possible, this fix could cause too much wax to melt into the wax pool and could flood the wick.

Maintaining a safe and effective wick heightMaintaining a safe and effective wick height will ensure the candle burns just as it should. Always trim your candle wick to a max of 10mm in height before each burn (don't worry, we've done this for you, ready for the first burn). Trimming your wick will also ensure that the candle does not burn too hot/too quickly, allowing for a safe, clean burn all the way down. Our wicks are also engineered to have a small amount of wax left at the bottom of the candle; this is so you can't burn the candle when there's not enough wax left, preventing the vessel from becoming too hot and breaking.

Tunnelling CandlesAny candle will tunnel if it's not been burned properly (as long as it is a good quality candle). Every candle has a memory, so the next burn is only as good as the last. To ensure it melts all the way to the edges, follow the candle care guide which we provide with each candle we sell. On this candle care guide, you'll see we advise always burning the candle for a full 4 hours on the first burn and then up to 4 hours every burn, until the wax has melted all the way to the edges. This is known as a "full-melt pool" (see our blog). You'll find that as the candle burns down, it takes less time for the wax to melt to the edges. This is because the heat is retained further down the candle, assisting with the melting.
-
There are small cracks in my candle waxA natural occurrence of vegetable wax (especially coconut wax) is cracks occurring during the colder weather. This is simply due to temperature changes the candle has been exposed to since being poured and then arriving with you. Don't worry - this won't affect the candle's performance or quality in any way, and will be gone after the first burn.
-
How do I get my wax melts to last longer? Each wax melt is designed to provide approx. 12 hours of scent. As the wax melt gets closer to the 12 hour mark, you'll notice the scent begin to weaken - this is when you should replace it.
-
How can I improve the scent throw of my wax melts? To improve the scent throw of your wax melts, ensure they are heated properly. Common issues include using an electric burner with low wattage (less than 28W), defective tealights, or a tall wax melt burner (over 10-12cm). Try different tealights or burners to identify the problem.
-
How can I reduce the intensity of my wax melt's scent? If the scent of your wax melt is too strong, try using only half of the melt at a time to reduce the intensity. You can also try using in a larger room or increasing ventilation to disperse the scent more evenly.
